Sade

Community Engagement Coordinator

Sade (shah-day) holds the principle of Ubuntu at the core of all her work, with the knowledge that “I am because we are”. Sade is an alchemist, educator, herbalist, reiki practitioner and is deeply committed to collective healing and holistic wellness, by any means necessary. As the founder of The Herbal Alchemist, Sade has been supporting folks in healing their relationships to their bodies and the natural world since 2021. Sade’s core values are gratitude, curiosity, play, expansion and community and she uses these values as a north star in all that she does.

As the first generation daughter of Jamaican and Nigerian immigrants, Sade’s worldview is influenced by the intermingling of cultures, and brings this unique perspective to community building. She believes that the reclamation of ancestral wisdom is pivotal to our collective liberation, and has been active in her struggle of restoring what has been lost.

Sade’s passions are rooted in community wellness and Black liberation, and has been working on People’s Program’s food sovereignty team, leading the bi-weekly grocery program, serving over 250 families in West Oakland. She also finds great joy in supporting the People’s Farm and healing her relationship to the land. Outside of her organizing work, Sade’s hobbies include daydreaming, rock climbing, poetry, reiki and getting lost in the woods.
